Dr. Evaezi Okpokoro is an Assistant Director at the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) and Coordinator at the International Research Center of Excellence (IRCE). He oversees and conducts research projects and manages activities at the center including mentoring young researchers. He also provides strategic guidance on the initiation and implementation of studies and supervises research into infectious and non-infectious diseases.
He has worked across several NIH and non-NIH-funded research as PI or Co- Investigator and handled several roles at the IHVN. Before his career stint at the Institute, he worked as a Training Consultant/Public Health Physician at the Yakubu Gowon Center and as a volunteer Research Assistant at the Nottinghamshire County Primary Care Trust.
Dr. Okpokoro received his medical degree from the University of Benin Nigeria, and his Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Nottingham, UK. He also completed a one-year WHO Tropical Disease Research Fellowship at AERAS, South Africa as well as several other trainings such as statistics in medicine with certification from Stanford University, US.
As a research scientist, he has a passion for Infectious disease research such as HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, mpox and COVID-19, as well as vaccine, diagnostic and drug trials with research publications to his credit.
He enjoys watching football and he is married with a child.
