Brief About Dr. Doreen Ahuche

Biography

Dr. Doreen Ahuche manages the programs of the Adult Antiretroviral Treatment Unit at the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN). She supervises the Institute’s efforts to achieve epidemic control of HIV across HIV testing and prevention, treatment and viral suppression cascades.

She develops and designs innovative and evidence-based strategic plans for quality, integration, and sustainability of interventions in adult HIV prevention, care, & treatment, tuberculosis, COVID-19, non-communicable diseases and for other diseases of public health importance.

Her duties also include collaborating with the Government of Nigeria, funders, partner organizations and stakeholders in line with efforts to render effective and efficient treatment and care and people living with HIV across all treatment areas. Mentoring staff and aligning their efforts to achieve sustainable results across facilities while supporting south-south collaborative learning also falls within her purview.

Dr. Ahuche has more than 15 years of experience in medical practice and public health. Within IHVN, she has worked as a Technical Lead Prevention, Care and Treatment (PCT) as well as Program Officer PCT. Before joining the Institute, she worked in non-governmental organizations like Catholic Relief Services and Excellence and Friends Management Consult Ltd Nigeria.

She has a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from University of South Wales, United Kingdom. Dr. Ahuche has also participated in various training courses on antiretroviral therapy, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), strategic information amongst other areas.

She is passionate about volunteering medical services to the vulnerable. She is married with children.
